Notes for Walter Richard Austen HUDSON CBE
Conservative MP for Kingston Upon Hull from 1951 to 1963. Chairman and Managing Director of William Cussons the Grocers until its sale to Great Universal Stores. Made CBE in 1962. High Sheriff of Kingston-upon-Hull 1946-47. Obituary in the Daily Telegraph 24th August 1970.

Originally wanted to be a doctor and when parents said he couldn’t he left school at 16 and joined Cussons at the bottom. Became a qualified tea taster. Joined the Army at the beginning of WW1 and bcame 2nd Lt. Went first Egypt then to Malta and to the Western Front where he suffered shell shock. He was then invalided out. President of Mother Humber the Hull Charity. A rotarian.
