Notes for Thomas GRIFFITH JP DL
Born after the death of his father. Had 8 stepbrothers and sisters.

The Penpompren property was consequently left in his father’s will to his Uncle Charles Griffith. His other uncles emigrated to South Africa and to Tasmania (Van Diemen’s Land). He was from 1809 surgeon of the Merioneth Militia and with them in Ireland. He practised surgery in Chester fro 1816 until 1836.

Of Trevalyn, Rossett, Denbighshire. High Sherriff of Denbighshire 1849. For full biography see ESJ’s Trevors of Trevalyn. His portrait is with Mark C-J in Liverpool.

Memorial tablet in Gresford Church. His renovation work at Trevalyn Hall is described in Burkes “Seats and Arms” Edition of 1852 Vol 1. No doubt he learnt his trade from Thomas Simon, his stepfather, a surgeon in Holywell.
