Held the office of Solicitor-General, to Queen Caroline, whom he defended at her trial. He was Common Serjeant of the City of London in 1822. He held the office of Attorney-General between 1830 and 1832, to King William IV. He held the office of Lord Chief Justice between 1832 and 1850.1 He was created 1st Baron Denman of Dovedale, co. Derby [U.K.] on 28 March 1834.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.
