This is the same name as that of a son of the sixteenth Olu (who had 71 children), who after the death of his brother, Prince Omateye, might have been expected to become the seventeenth Olu, had he himself not died three months after the death of the sixteenth Olu, in 1848.55

On Page 49 of History of Itsekiri,55 W.A. Moore (writing in the 1930s) lists forty-four names among the seventy-one children of Olu Akengbuwa, among which are “Ejo or Joe” and “Ejoki”, and says that these are “the names of those whose descendants are still traceable, and even form practically a majority amongst the Itsekiri population of the Warri Province today
