Added the name of Selwin to that of Ibbetson, Feb. 18, 1817, on inheriting the estates of his maternal great-uncle, Thomas Selwin, of Down Hall, Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex.
Succeeded his brother, Henry Carr, as 4th Bart., and to the estate of Denton, Yorkshire, May 5, 1825, when (having thereby forfeited the Selwin estates) he resumed his patronymic of Ibbetson.
Married, Feb. 4, 1812, Charlotte Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Stoughton, of Ballyhorgan, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
Died Apr. 9, 1839, at Denton Park [ Yorkshire].
Brother of Henry C. (1788), James (1799) and John T. (1801).
