From August to October 1947 Shebbeare was the Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion Bombay (Indian) Grenadiers stationed at Thal Fort, Kurram Agency, North-West Frontier Province (now In Pakistan)

Promoted from Second Lt. to Lt. 29/11/1931, in the Indian Army.
The London Gazette 3/9/1937 shows him as a Lt. in the Guides Cavalry, with the local rank of Captain, as Military Secretary to H.E. The Governor of Sindh, from June 1937.
Promoted to Captain 29/8/1938.
He was described by another Indian Army officer who was interviewed by the Imperial War Museum, in 2003, as "a gentleman and ex-Indian Army cavalry and Old School - whose father-in-law was the Sindh Governor and his grandfather won a V.C. in 1857." From:
