Sir Samuel George Bonham, 1st Bt. was born on 7 September 1803.1 He was the son of Captain George Bonham and Isabella Baines Woodgate.1 He married Ellen Emelia Barnard, daughter of Thomas Barnard, on 16 June 1846.1 He died on 8 October 1863 at age 60.
He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong in 1847. He held the office of Governor of Singapore. He held the office of Governor of Malacca. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1850.1 He held the office of Governor of Prince of Wales's Island.He was created 1st Baronet Bonham [U.K.] on 27 November 1852. He was Plenipotentiary and Chief Superintendent of British trade in China in 1853.
