1837. Master of Horton-in-Ribblesdale school; afterwards at Doberofs, and at
Alston; Master of Penrith grammar school, for a few years. Author, Guide to
the Curiosities of Craven. Died 1866, at Penrith. Brother of George
(1844), etc.; father of the next and of Thomas (above). (Giggleswick Sch.
Reg., which gives '3rd s. of John.')
