Lt Col. Walter Marlborough Pryor
DSO & Bar DL JP (November 18, 1880 – 28 May 1962) was a British soldier.
Pryor was the only son of Marlborough Robert Pryor, DL, JP, Weston Park, Hitchin, Hertfordshire and his wife. He was educated at
Eton and
Trinity College,
Cambridge where he gained a BA (1901), and as is customary an
MA (1905).[2] In 1910 he married Ethne Philippa, only daughter of
Sir Norman Moore, 1st Baronet. They had three sons; John Marlborough Pryor (1911-1984), Lt Col. Robert Matthew Marlborough MBE (1917-2005)

Pryor served during the
First World War. London Gazette records his promotion to acting Captain of the
Bedfordshire Regiment in 1914.[3] He commanded the 1/6th
Royal Warwickshire Regiment, serving in France and Italy from 1917 to 1919. During the War, Pryor was
mentioned in despatches four times. He was awarded a DSO in 1917, and a Bar to his DSO in 1918. He was awarded the
Bronze Medal of Military Valor in 1919.
Promoted.[5] He was promoted to
Brevet-
Major in 1919[6] Promoted to Acting Lt Col.
After the war, he was chairman of the
Sun Fire Insurance Company and the
Sun Life Assurance Society.
He also served as a magistrate and
Deputy Lieutenant of
Hertfordshire.
