He gained the rank of Ensign in the service of the Howard's Foot. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Fleming, of Rydal, co. Westmorland [E., 1705] on 2 July 1747. He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland from 1754 to 1755. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cumberland from 1756 to 1757.
