In his capacity as civil engineer, Charles Menzies Holland was associated at a high level with the construction of Crystal Palace. He was also involved in the construction of railroads, including Girvan and Portpatrick Junction, Hoylake, Festiniog and Blaenau, West Widnes and Derry Central Railways. He provided the capital for the foundation of Brunner, Mond and Co. Ltd.
He lived at Field House, Pipers Ash Lane, Hoole, Cheshire (1881 Census) and at Bryn-y-Grog, Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales.
