Notes for Rev Thomas Edwards HANKISON
From Hillen’s Hstory of the Borough of Kings Lynn.

He was distinguished not as a poet only, but as a classical scholar. After ordination Mr. Hankinson accepted for a short time a curacy at Castle Rising. In 1829 he became curate at St. Margaret's, Lynn, but afterwards removed to the incumbency at St. Matthew's chapel, Denmark Hill, Camberwell.

The Rev. Thomas Seaton, M,A,, late fellow of Clare Hall, be- queathed to the Cambridge University the rents of his Kislingbury estate, which in 1844 amounted to about ^40 per annum. The in- come was to be given to the Master of Arts, who should write the best English poem on a sacred theme. The Vice-Chancellor, the Master of Clare Hall, and the Greek Professor, the disposers of this premium, were to determine the subject. The selected poem was to be printed, and the expense deducted from the income of the estate ; the remainder was to be awarded to the successful competitor. Mr. Hankinson entered the lists and carried off nine Seatonian prizes.
