He became a fellow commoner at Trinity College Dublin on 10th July 1740.
He gained the rank of Colonel in 1756
He gained the rank of Captain in 1760
He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn 2nd July 1745. He succeeded to the Archdale properties in that year.
He also succeeded to the remaining "Mervyn" propetries in 1776.
He was a JP for Counties, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Donegal and Queens County.
He was a Governor for County Fermanagh 1756 to 1800 and Governor of County Amagh 1761-1762
He was gazetted a Captain in Sir Ralph Gore's Regiment of foot 1760
He became a Colonel in 1769.
He was buried 22nd June 1813 in St. Mary's Old Church Ardess, County Fermanagh.
