In 1578 he obtained a grant or ratification of Arms from Robert Cooke, Clarencieu, as recorded in the College of Arms, London. He lived at All Hallows, Barking by the Tower London and was also known as Martin Avondale He purchased Abotts Hall Darsham, Suffolk in 1593. Later he purchased three other Manors in Darsham. It appears from his will he also purchased lands in other parts of England.

He purchased a farm called Elmsted, at Bromley, Kent, and acquired property at Erith, Kent.

He had land at Skegnes in the parish of Engelmells. Linconshire, as well as a house in Suffolk Lane, London. He also held, of the Dean and Chapter of St. Pauls, some property at Stoke, Newington.
